YOU are CHOOSING A place where Romance and connection thrive.
Set Amidst 64 pristine acres in the high peaks of the Catskill Mountains stands a historic dairy farm, rich in rural history, an integral part of the agricultural community since the early days. This magical property has been lovingly reimagined as an “elegantly rustic” wedding venue and artisanal flower farm. Prioritizing continiuty over reinvention the current propietors continue to be guided by the seasonal daily rhythms of rural mountain life.
The enchantment of the setting takes on a unique perspective after the sun goes down, as well. With evening’s arrival, the pristine Catskill Mountain air morphs into a wonderful blend of natural scents emanating from the forests and fields. An ideal time for socializing with family and friends or simply sitting back and enjoying the fire.
History
In 1867 The Smith Family arrived from Scotland. With determination they built a dairy farm out of the wilderness of the West Settlement Valley. It also became a stagecoach stop. Much of the original detail in the farmhouse remains. The handblown glass windows, wide plank pine flooring, double front door. Each spring the fields had to be cleared of yet more bluestones before planting could begin. Farmers also became stone wall masons. The original claw foot tub has been repurposed for chilling beverages n the barn. Story has it that the Smith’s brought their working dogs with them.
Guests are welcome to explore the adjacent 2,000 acres of forever-wild lands.
The property includes unspoiled mountain top views, 2 half-acre, spring-fed ponds, babbling brooks(head waters of the Eastern branch of the mighty Delaware), evergreen forest, sap bush, native meadows, a bountiful blueberry orchard, delightfully colorful perennial flower gardens with heritage irises and peonies more than 40 years old, seasonal annual cutting gardens bursting forth of zinnias, celosia, cosmos, aramanthus, dara, snapdragons, and over 1,500 dahlia plants. Summer daytime temperatures average 78 degrees, with the property’s elevation resulting in fresh country breezes and low humidity, adding to comfort levels all summer long. At 2,000 ft elevation the area is virtually bug free. In addition to the historic 8,000 sq ft barn are the seasonal floral cutting gardens for all your floral needs, and the farmhouse and ranch house.
